Tribute & Scheduled Delivery

Effective 5 Sep 2026 Last updated 5 Sep 2026 Version 1.0

These Terms form part of our Terms of Service and govern how time-locked messages work.

Before you start

A Tribute is a message that stays sealed until a moment you choose. That is a genuinely unusual thing to build a contract around, and there are a handful of rules that surprise people. We would rather you knew them now than found out at the worst possible moment.

The five that matter most:

  • You can cancel for everyone — but only until “Unlocks Soon”. After that you can only remove your own copy; theirs still arrives.
  • Ownership passes at “Unlocks Soon”, before the Tribute has even opened. From that moment the recipient's copy is theirs.
  • Gifts ship on their own schedule. A parcel may arrive before the message unlocks.
  • "Keep forever" means as long as we exist. We will tell you if that changes, with 90 days' notice.
  • If you die, your scheduled Tributes will still be delivered. That is usually the point. Section 9 explains how a family member can ask us to stop.

What a Tribute is

A Tribute is a message you compose now and schedule for delivery at a future date and time. It may include:

  • Text — your own, or based on one of our templates
  • Photos, videos and voice recordings, within the size limits shown in the app
  • A physical gift, optionally engraved, shipped to a recipient's address
  • A location and an occasion
  • Different content and different gifts for each recipient, if there is more than one

Auto-Prompts are different — those are AI instructions that run at a future time. They are covered in the AI Features Terms.

Secure Storage

Secure Storage is where your Tribute content is held between creation and delivery.

What we do: store content encrypted at rest with AES-256, on infrastructure in the UAE; back it up automatically.

What Secure Storage is not: a backup service, an archive, or a safe deposit box. It is a delivery mechanism with storage attached.

Please keep your own copy of anything irreplaceable. If a recording of someone's voice exists only in Secure Storage, that is a single point of failure. We take our reliability commitments seriously — but no service should be the only place a memory lives.

ℹ️ Not to be confused with our secure facility, which is the physical place where gifts are held. See the Shipping & Delivery Policy.

Creating and scheduling

Delivery modes

  • Scheduled — a specific date and time
  • After duration — a period from now (days, hours, minutes, seconds)

Time zones

All scheduling is calculated in UTC internally and displayed in your device's local time. If you or the recipient travel across time zones, the moment of unlock does not change — it is a fixed point in time, not a local clock time.

Daylight saving: if the recipient is in a region that observes it, the local display time may shift by an hour relative to what you saw when scheduling. The underlying moment is unchanged.

Drafts

Drafts are not scheduled and will not be delivered. Drafts that are not submitted within 10 days are permanently deleted. We will warn you before this happens, but please do not rely on drafts as storage.

Submission and payment

A Tribute is scheduled only when you submit it and the Credits are paid. Until then it is a draft. If you have insufficient Credits, the Tribute stays in draft and the unlock date may pass without delivery.

Check your Credit balance before scheduling something time-sensitive.

Scheduling far into the future

There is no upper limit on how far ahead you can schedule, subject to the Credits you buy for storage duration.

But please be realistic. A Tribute scheduled for 2065 depends on our company existing in 2065, your recipient's phone number still reaching them, and the file formats still being readable. We commit to what is in Section 10 and Section 20 of the Terms of Service, and we will be straight with you: no software company can promise forty years. For very long horizons, keep a copy elsewhere too.

Editing, deleting and the “Unlocks Soon” cutoff

Before submission

Edit or delete a draft freely. No charge, no restriction.

After submission

You may cancel a submitted Tribute for everyone at any time until its status becomes “Unlocks Soon” — that is, until 24 hours before the scheduled unlock.

You may not edit a submitted Tribute. To change it, cancel it and create a new one. Credits already consumed are not refunded — see the Credits Terms.

The “Unlocks Soon” cutoff — read this

A Tribute enters “Unlocks Soon” 24 hours before its scheduled unlock. From that moment it can no longer be cancelled for the recipient — ownership has passed to them.

From that moment the option to cancel for everyone is removed from the app. Only “remove from my list” remains, which clears your own copy and leaves theirs untouched. It will unlock for them as scheduled.

By that point the Tribute may already be in the delivery pipeline: queued for transmission, pre-positioned on the recipient's device, or — where a gift is involved — already manufactured and handed to a courier.

We show this warning in the app at the moment you schedule and again if you attempt a late deletion. Please don't dismiss it.

If the recipient already knows

Once a Tribute reaches "Delivered Locked", the recipient has been told something is coming and is watching a countdown. If you then delete it, we notify them that the Tribute was withdrawn. We do not tell them what it said, and we do not explain why.

We think that's the right balance — leaving someone staring at a countdown to a message that silently vanishes is worse.

Unlock — and why ownership is final

What happens at unlock

At the scheduled moment, the recipient is notified and can open the Tribute. If you set a Receiver Key, they need it to open the message. Sending it to them is your responsibility.

Ownership transfers at “Unlocks Soon”

When a Tribute's status changes to “Unlocks Soon”, the recipient's copy becomes theirs — before it has even opened.

From that moment they may keep it indefinitely, download it, archive it, react to it, and — subject to Section 6 — share it. You cannot cancel it for them, delete it from their account, or require them to return it.

The one exception

We will remove delivered content from a recipient's account where the content itself breaches our Acceptable Use & Community Guidelines — for example, non-consensual intimate imagery, or child sexual abuse material. Regret is not a ground for removal. Illegality is.

If unlock fails

If a Tribute does not unlock on time because of a failure on our side, we will deliver it as soon as we can and notify both of you, explaining the delay honestly.

If we cannot deliver because the recipient's number is unreachable, the account was deleted, or they opted out of contact, we notify you and hold the Tribute in Secure Storage for 90 days so you can reschedule it to a different recipient.

A third party added to a Tribute Echo group has no right to see or forward the Tribute. Sharing it with them, or onward from them, may breach the Acceptable Use & Community Guidelines and the privacy of everyone involved.

Tribute Echo

Sending a Tribute automatically creates a group chat named after it, with you as creator and the recipients as members. The name cannot be changed.

The Echo is independent of the Tribute. Deleting the Tribute does not delete the Echo, and leaving the Echo does not cancel the Tribute. If you leave and others stay, they all become administrators of that group.

Anonymity

"Hide Name During Countdown" hides your name from the recipient during the countdown.

What it is not: anonymity from us. We always know who sent every Tribute.

We will disclose your identity where a court, regulator or law enforcement authority lawfully requires it; where you have used the feature to harass or threaten; or where necessary to protect someone's safety.

A recipient of an anonymous Tribute may report it. If they do, our safety team sees who you are.

Gifts inside a Tribute

Two separate timelines

A gift's delivery date and a Tribute's unlock date are different things and are not synchronised.

A parcel may arrive days or weeks before the message unlocks. We cannot control when someone opens a box. If the surprise matters, either time the shipment closer to the unlock date, or accept that the physical gift may arrive first.

Gifts from your My Treasure list

You may buy gifts in advance; they sit in your My Treasure list until you assign one to a Tribute. Gifts in your My Treasure list remain your property, and you may request delivery to yourself at any time (shipping charges apply).

If you delete a Tribute after the gift has shipped

We cannot recall a parcel in a courier's network. The recipient will receive it.

  • To the recipient, we send a short message explaining that the accompanying Tribute was withdrawn, inviting them to keep the gift, and asking them to respect the sender's decision not to explain.
  • To you, we confirm the parcel could not be stopped.

No refund is available for a gift already manufactured or dispatched. See the Returns, Exchanges & Refunds Policy.

Engraving

Engraving is permanent and made to your approved preview. Check spelling, dates and names before approving. We manufacture exactly what you approve, and we keep a record of that approval.

Digital legacy — what happens if you die

This is the section we would most like a lawyer and, honestly, your own family to look over. What follows is a defensible default position, not the only possible one.

Scheduled Tributes still deliver

If you die, Tributes you have already scheduled and paid for will still be delivered at their scheduled time.

For most users this is the entire point. A message written for a child's eighteenth birthday should arrive on that birthday, whether or not the parent is still alive.

We do not require proof of life to deliver, and we will not cancel scheduled Tributes because we learn a sender has died.

How a family member can ask us to pause

A personal representative — executor, administrator, or a person with an equivalent legal authority over the estate — may ask us to suspend or cancel undelivered Tributes.

They must provide:

  • A certified death certificate
  • Documentary evidence of authority over the estate
  • Proof of their own identity

On receipt we will suspend the affected Tributes while we assess, and we will decide within 30 days.

We will normally honour a properly evidenced request to cancel. We may decline where we have clear evidence of the deceased's contrary wish — for example, a Tribute explicitly marked to be delivered regardless — or where cancellation would defeat a recipient's already-vested rights.

What a personal representative cannot do

  • Read undelivered Tributes. The content was intended for a named recipient, not the estate. We will not disclose it. Where content is end-to-end encrypted we could not do so in any event.
  • Redirect a Tribute to a different recipient.
  • Recover already-delivered Tributes from recipients.
  • Access chat history. Why we take this position: a person writing a private message to their child, to be opened after their death, is entitled to expect that message stays private in the meantime. Treating undelivered Tributes as estate assets to be read would break the promise the product is built on.

We recognise reasonable people disagree, and that estate law in some jurisdictions may compel a different result. Where a competent court orders otherwise, we will comply with the order.

If the recipient dies

If we learn the recipient has died before unlock, we notify you and hold the Tribute so you can cancel or redirect it. If we do not learn of it, delivery will proceed to their account.

Plan for it

If posthumous delivery matters to you:

  • Tell someone. Tell your family the account exists.
  • Address it in your will. Say what you want to happen to scheduled Tributes.
  • Keep your account details somewhere your family can find them.
  • Keep your own copies of anything irreplaceable.

We can honour clear intentions much more easily than we can guess at them.

Before deletion

We notify you before a retention period expires so you can download your copy. Notifications go to the contact details on your account — keep them current.

ℹ️ If we ever cease to operate, Section 20 of the Terms of Service applies: at least 90 days' notice, a way to export your Tributes and media, and pending Tributes delivered early or provided as a downloadable copy, at your choice.

Storage limits

Your Credits determine your storage allowance: media size per file, total per Tribute, and total per account. Limits are shown in the app and set by the administrator.

If you exceed your allowance you cannot add more media until you free space or buy Credits. Existing scheduled Tributes are never deleted for exceeding a limit — we will not delete a paid, scheduled message because your account went over quota.

Reliability

We commit to:

  • 99.9% or better message delivery success
  • 99.95% platform uptime excluding planned maintenance
  • Automated backups with restore testing
  • Notifying you promptly and specifically if your content is lost or delayed

We do not guarantee perfection. Section 17 of the Terms of Service governs liability, including the point that we are not liable for sentimental or emotional loss. That limit is why Section 2 of this document asks you to keep your own copies.

Questions about any of this: support@letshoraro.com. If you are planning something significant — a message for a child to open in twenty years, or a Tribute intended for after your death — please ask us first rather than assuming. We would rather help you set it up properly.
